Meet Chantelle Brown-Young aka Winnie Harlow. She is 19 years old and has vitiligo; a skin condition causing cells responsible for skin pigmentation to die. At times in her life she wanted to die because of her appearance.

Today though she is a model, catwalk star, aspiring writer and role model to all those in self-doubt of their appearance. And just recently she landed a dream gig on the forthcoming season of America’s Next Top Model.

What sounds like a beautiful fairy-tale story began with a journey full of suffering and self-doubt. Brown-Young developed vitiligo at an early age. In school they called her “zebra” and “cow”. But she managed to step out of her pain and embrace her true self and uniqueness.

Brown-Young’s life philosophy

“I have accepted that God meant for me to be original and that’s the way I am supposed to be.” says Chantelle Brown-Young. She says that things have worked in her favor because she accepts her originality and the way she is supposed to be. “I loved myself. And with that, opportunities start to fall into my lap. And I thank God for all of them. Try loving yourself.”

I think we all can learn a thing or two from this young, but very wise soul.
